The Fiber Wire

Plugged in and turned on. All paper. All the time.

Treasure Box

For four hours every Wednesday afternoon I slip into the calm of the college archives to work with the Thomas M. Cook collection. Thomas graduated from SUNY-ESF in 1935 and went on to have a lifelong career in the paper industry. He was a dedicated collector of books and artifacts dealing with paper and in 1983 he donated his collection to the college in memory of his wife, Mary Gloria. Besides books and periodicals there are boxes of correspondence and loose paper samples. I’m helping to check that each collection item was properly entered into the catalogue. Today was an exciting day for me – looking at marbled paper. I took some pictures to share with you!
